A few words on the possible meanings of the above cards and their positions:

  • One: The heart of the matter, the present environment, or the primary factor.
    • Cups: Spiritual experience, emotions, inner feelings
    • Three (3) of Cups: presents a different aspect of a suit. This carries the meaning of joyful social contact, although it may be considered to be rather superficial. There's agreement, general harmony, frivolity, and sometimes it is associated with birth.
  • Two: The Opposing factor, a factor for change, a secondary or reinforcing factor.
    • Wands: Movement, action, creativity, enthusiasm, adventure, confidence
    • Queen (13) of Wands: Quiet, relaxed, natural, feminine, mature representation of suit's themes. The Queen of Wands is said by some to represent one's basic instinct. Her strength and task are providing inital imputs.
  • Three: The root cause, the unconscious influence, the deeper meaning, the unknown factor.
    • Wands: Movement, action, creativity, enthusiasm, adventure, confidence
    • King (14) of Wands: Practical, assertive, strong, mature, masculine representation of suit's themes. The King of Wands identifies a person as active, a passionate heart. The throne he sits on has no top, indicating infinite possibilities.
  • Four: The past, a receding influence, a resolved factor, a quality to let go.
    • Cups: Spiritual experience, emotions, inner feelings
    • Ace (1) of Cups: Theme of Suit. The Ace of Cups's meaning is that of joy and inner peace from friends and family. The 5 streams pouring out of the cup represent the 5 senses: sight, sounds, hearing, taste and touch.
  • Five: Attitudes and beliefs, conscious influence, the goal or purpose, an alternate future.
    • Swords: Intellect, thought, reason, justice, truth
    • Six (6) of Swords: presents a different aspect of a suit. A hasty decision, greed and/or thoughtless behavior, the individual acts in an impulsive fashion. It represents secret plans, hidden dishonor, frustration and the possibility of failure.

    • Pentacles: racticality, security, material concerns, Earth, nature, wealth
    • King (14) of Pentacles: Practical, assertive, strong, mature, masculine representation of suit's themes. As with the rest of the court cards, he may signify contact with a person of this high stature, or in some cases, reflect qualities that the querant himself expresses in the subject at hand.
  • Seven: You as you are, could be, present yourself or as you see yourself.
    • Pentacles: racticality, security, material concerns, Earth, nature, wealth
    • Queen (13) of Pentacles: Quiet, relaxed, natural, feminine, mature representation of suit's themes.
  • Eight: The outside environment, another's viewpoint, another's expectations, you as others see you.
    • Wands: Movement, action, creativity, enthusiasm, adventure, confidence
    • Three (3) of Wands: presents a different aspect of a suit. This card symbolizes enterprise, trade, or commerce.
  • Nine: Guidance, a key factor, hopes and fears, or an overlooked factor.
    • Pentacles: racticality, security, material concerns, Earth, nature, wealth
    • Six (6) of Pentacles: presents a different aspect of a suit. Having or Not Having: Resources, Knowledge, or Power
  • Ten: The outcome--be it overall, the outcome's inner state, actions, or effects.

    • Seven (7) of Pentacles: presents a different aspect of a suit. Assessment, Reward, Direction Change
